With us, aerated concrete was the cheapest/inexpensive. But that stuff is not going in. Just build double-shell, then you don't have to use the cardboard bricks and can use proper sand-lime brick. Also not much more expensive.

Anyone who Googles the manufacturing processes of these two building materials will have to smile at how someone can idolize one and demonize the other

Apart from single- versus double-layer construction, this comparison seems to me to fall short in another respect: I would not use aerated concrete as an exposed building material except in commercial construction, but rather plastered. In doing so, one gladly uses the more rationally processable blocks, i.e. the jumbo formats. On the other hand, sand-lime brick, in my opinion, practically cries out to be used as an exposed building material. However, I find exposed masonry much more beautiful with a smaller-scale alternating rhythm between brick and joint. That in turn "forbids" planar blocks with thin bed and dry joints. That means, in the end, jumbo is even being compared with 2DF here.

If one were to follow your personal preferences. Otherwise, probably not.

Ok my last remark was provocative My honest opinion: It doesn’t really matter what you build with... living inside the house you won’t notice a difference (unless you have special requirements like a major federal highway in front of the door, then aerated concrete is probably not so good...), from the outside you can’t see it either if it’s plastered. Durability is almost the same (also with ETICS, even though many conspiracy theorists believe otherwise... the Fraunhofer study clearly states this, even with advantages in the durability of the facade with ETICS compared to aerated concrete due to fewer thermal bridges through ETICS...). My feeling is that double-shell is best, but that doesn’t make my house last any longer After 70-100 years everything is so outdated anyway that rebuilding is cheaper than major renovation (if you want to live in a house that is at least somewhat up to date)....
