I have experienced the woodpeckers both at our apartment building and at the office building where I work. Great spotted woodpeckers. Have already chased them away myself with the water hose. Woodpeckers are not only in the forest. Maybe it also depends on the region in [D].
That is correct: woodpeckers do not have a philosophical concept of "forest" like we do, a park-like stand of trees may be sufficient for them. How well they can see or smell and how they "recognize" a (supposed) tree, I have no idea. I have certainly missed some "Knowledge before 8" and some mouse broadcasts, Löwenzahn & Co. If they have found something that is enough of a tree for them for reasons we cannot understand, and it meets their expectations as a hollow sound, then they will peck there even if it is a house. But where nothing at all resembles a forest, even with all eyes tightly shut, a woodpecker will hardly ever wander there, I'd say.
And what if that's a WDVS Spechtmutation, which according to Darwin suddenly appears from generation to generation as a play experiment of nature? Hihi
Godzilla and the invasion of the woodpeckers....feathers fly, blood flows, the Styrofoam splashes, what a film that would be! Oooo, a blockbuster in Dolby.
