It's always interesting to see how people keep bashing the bonus at VW.
It's not even a full month's salary.
How many companies pay a 13th and 14th month's salary? How many pay for childcare or cover the costs for mobility? You don't get any of that at VW. Yes, you earn well at VW. In the indirect area, though, most are also university-educated engineers. They would get the same pay from other employers like Siemens and co.
This bonus topic keeps coming up...

Best regards!

I’m about to fall off my chair... out of pity! The poor well-educated engineers don’t get a 13th and 14th month salary!

Well, my better half is a special needs educator and knows tons of full-time childcare workers earning 1700€ a month. And if you think 1700€ is little, you’ve probably lost touch with reality. Here in the north, less than 10% of employees earn more than that. (That’s why no one builds basements either.)

And 10.5€ net isn’t that bad, after all, we’re not talking about gross. As an entrepreneur, you would have to know the additional ancillary costs. If childcare workers earned more, kindergarten places would also cost more. And by the way, primary school teachers don’t really earn more either – and they haven’t been civil servants for a long time...

Then that may be the case with you. Here in the East we also know many educators (already through school) and on average they earn 1300-1400 EUR net (30h) or 1500-1600 EUR for 40h.

I did not say that 1700 EUR is little (you have to read carefully!). It is average or slightly below.. just look at the corresponding statistics. Kindergarten places should be free... in return, child benefits can gladly be abolished!

Sure, VW is often brought up and of course every employee is free to work there. BUT: they really live in a salary paradise. Thanks to the in-house collective agreement, they earn a bit more from the start than the competition and that with a 35-hour week. In addition, there is a 13th salary + holiday pay (I think that is about half a month’s salary). If you then get an annual bonus of several thousand euros, that’s already something the "average engineer" usually only dreams of. They would deserve it, too, if they didn’t constantly complain about their tough fate. I have some friends there who are really crying this year because the bonus is so low and now special repayments + vacation are no longer 100% covered by it. I personally find that sad, considering what a disastrous year VW has had. A fellow student of mine has roughly the same position at VW as I do, earns about 25% more than me annually (and I am also at a renowned international company). I wouldn’t want to work in VW’s structures, but anyone who complains about being underpaid there has lost all sense of reality. It’s the same with teachers. At least gymnasium teachers are well paid and I’m happy for them, but it always annoys me how much they complain about their tough job when they have to correct an exam or attend a parent-teacher meeting or go on a class trip without extra pay. Hey, I also have to go on business trips to Thailand, China, and Brazil, and it’s no fun either to work 12 hours in a factory hall at 40°C and be escorted to dinner by security because crime rates are so high. But I don’t complain about it because that’s just part of the job.

Completely destructive post. I never said that people at VW earn too little or need pity. But just because VW is in the media every year, people forget that other companies, as already mentioned, pay 13th and 14th salaries, cover daycare costs and so on. That just doesn’t make it into the media. From my point of view, it’s simply incomprehensible why it’s always about VW. Daimler pays roughly the same salary and similar bonuses. You never hear anything about them. Other car manufacturers as well. It’s always VW that’s the complaining wall. That’s what it’s about.

There is no 13th salary. There are 12 salaries + bonus + holiday pay. From the bonus, only an advance payment is already made in November, and then the rest in May. And holiday pay is not even close to half a salary.

As I said, I would never say that people at VW earn poorly or too little here, because that would be wrong. It’s just that the focus is always on VW with this topic, although, for example, the other manufacturers in the automotive industry pay just as well. Sometimes even better.

Sorry for off-topic. I’ll stop now.
