When we talk about modern parquet, we are not referring to solid wood planks. Vinyl is also not really ideal in terms of material properties for underfloor heating, but since it is quite thinly constructed, it doesn’t matter. With real wood, it is also important that it is not built too thickly. In addition, the type of wood is important for suitability because of shrinkage behavior. Among domestic woods, nothing beats oak. But that does cost...

We were sold an overly thick impact sound insulation for this floor, so it cracked and broke everywhere. In addition, we had good intentions and bought pollutant-free flooring, which, thanks to completely lacking flexibility, was terrible to install and extremely sensitive to point loads (the smallest stones caused deep holes).

But aside from our particular bad luck with this floor: vinyl is mostly not a visual hit. Initially, the texture is still nice, the surface matte. After a few months it looked (not just in our case - I have noticed this often) like a gym floor. Like plastic and somehow cheap. Price segment 25-40 euros.

Our cheap laminate floor in the old apartment looked better after 15 years!

Ms. Hemali, that is, to put it mildly, nonsense. Both our offices as well as various daycare groups here in our town are covered with vinyl, goods from project floors or similar, at 25,- per sqm uninstalled current price. All floors are intact and still look top-notch.

Yes, one certainly should not generalize! This is just my personal experience.

I actually don't know any vinyl floor that still looks like it was intended after 1/2/3 years. Maybe we were just unlucky... could be.

That may be true. However, I have often heard that thermal conductivity is generally somewhat overrated.

If you have worse values, it just takes longer until you feel the warmth in the room. The heat is not lost, you just need a bit of patience until it gets warm. You probably only notice this during the transition period in autumn.
Whether that's true, I (still) can't say.

And I could imagine that parquet feels more comfortable than vinyl once the heating is switched off.

The problem with 3-layer parquet compared to solid wood is that the 3 layers expand differently when heated. This can lead to unsightly gaps forming.
