I have actually heard that before.

The alternative to this would be to tile the entire ground floor. It is fundamentally not a question of budget since the entire ground floor in tile has always been included in the calculation.

In my current apartment, I have good laminate in the living and sleeping areas. In all other areas, plenty of tiles.

However, I have no experience whether tiles are pleasant in the living area.

Few find it good because it is easy to care for and durable. But many find it very unpleasant and say they would not do it again.

Hence the outlined idea to, among other things, create as few transitions as possible.

EDIT: Laminate in the living area would result in a glass plate in front of the fireplace.

How is the heating done? So, is there underfloor heating? We ourselves have almost everywhere oak floorboards, only tiles in the entrance hall and in the bathrooms. However, I personally have nothing against tiles, and they are not necessarily cold, for example, the surface also plays a role.

As has already been mentioned here, if a mix, then better a chosen contrast rather than as similar as possible (but still not quite). And I wouldn't let the transition run under the kitchen island like that, rather pull it a bit into the living room. Or just go completely with tiles or laminate (though I would rather choose parquet/real wood).

With underfloor heating.

Regarding the surface: I personally find it difficult to assess. When the hand or foot is on the pattern, it doesn’t feel cold. But I only really know that when it’s finished, right?

Regarding the kitchen island: Why? Does it have disadvantages or is it a matter of personal taste?

Taste. For me, a clear edge would be important, but that won't happen if the island is "half in, half out." And an edge between the floors/ the end of material 1 would probably always be visible.
However, I would also be in favor of "if you're going to do it, do it properly" and would choose a distinctly different look if it is going to be two different floors.

Regarding tiles everywhere: I grew up with tiles throughout the entire ground floor. Back then, it never bothered me. Nowadays, I sometimes notice it at my parents' place. Not particularly negative, but as of now, for me, something other than tile belongs under a couch. My current taste is simply wood.

So, and how does that help you now? You have to live in it. You have to like it too...

Everyone knows tiles from the bathroom. The good thermal conductivity that makes tiles the first choice for underfloor heating also works the other way around with heat from the human body. How much one perceives this certainly depends on the type.

For me, it’s initially only about opinions regarding the two variants so that I can possibly weigh pro and con. Nothing more and nothing less.

Regarding the transition, I was thinking of something like that. See picture, but then we’re already at the issue of laying direction!!!

It’s certainly personal taste, or is there a variant here that should generally be chosen due to the open space?
