What type of television connection are you planning in the new single-family house?

Hello everyone,

I would be interested in your suggestions regarding the type of TV connection.
- SAT
- Cable
- DVB-T2
- via Internet connection
- xx?

In the age of Netflix, AmazonPrime, YouTube and all the others. Will people still watch TV in 10 years? Therefore, considering not to screw a SAT dish onto the facade (because it doesn’t look good).

Let me hear how you currently receive TV programs in your new buildings.

Have a nice evening.

There are already some posts about the topic and, of course, many different opinions.
- The football fan only wants Sat-TV because otherwise the neighbor cheers a few seconds earlier
- The streamer only needs IP-TV
etc.
We had a cable connection installed. We use it for the internet. We will not activate the TV function for now and will use IP-TV. If we are missing something, we can still switch. We also install the coax cabling at the same time.
Sat was not an option for us. We need cable because of the fast internet and a dish also looks ugly. However, we could have solved it with a flat dish on the flat roof.
Basically, good LAN cabling and planning of WiFi hotspots is more important today and in the future than coax.
With fast internet, I would go for IP-TV.

Don't know if this has already been discussed in other threads about IPTV:

- Costs?
- Is a receiver necessary?
- How is it with multiple TVs?

I am not familiar with the different IPTV variants, but I can say a bit about Magenta because we currently have a free trial subscription.

Normally costs about 8-10€ per month and a receiver is required. One is included free as a rental device.
I think each additional one costs about the same again.
So if I have 2 or more devices in the house, it gets expensive.
In addition, I have to find somewhere to put the receiver.
That's why it's out of the question for me.

How is it with other IPTV variants?

There are IPTV providers like [Zattoo] with a subscription model. Depending on the chosen level, you can stream on up to 4 devices, for example. Whether on a smartphone, tablet, PC, TV, etc., these apps run natively on most smart TVs. Or on a set-top box, firestick, Apple TV, etc.
With [Zattoo], the largest package costs €13.99 and can be canceled/changed monthly. That is less than what we would have to pay monthly as a base fee for the TV function with cable. And we wouldn’t even have HD then...
Alternatively, there are [Waipu] and others. Depending on your requirements, a smaller package might also be sufficient.

Well, I haven’t watched free TV for about 5 years.
But I still have Zattoo for my wife...

So an internet connection is more than enough!

Very interesting point for us. But otherwise, we actually watch less TV (except maybe during the corona crisis we sometimes watch the news or so, but that’s starting to annoy us). With IPTV, it will probably still be a bit behind the satellite dish, right? But since our regular TV consumption is decreasing week by week, it actually argues against a satellite dish. Moreover, less and less football is available free-to-air...
