A Netflix HD stream requires about 5 MBit. Others need a bit more, others less. But you have to calculate around that range. 4k then goes up to 15-25 MBit. Content is still scarce - that will certainly increase - but the question of the added value of 4k is not unfounded. Humans hardly benefit from it, but it can be sold... Gaming is no big deal. It gets interesting when the kids want to stream themselves, that is, use their upload.

We can stream in HD on two devices without any problems and at the same time surf the internet and watch YouTube, for example, in high resolution. So it should work. We have a 50 MBit line.

It was not about whether that is an apocalypse. Of course, that depends on personal needs.
But if you only have TV via DSL, then no internet, no phone works if it ever fails.
My key message was: Don’t rely on a single technology.

Not using a smiley once and such a statement is taken seriously. Interesting.

And that’s why you have a photovoltaic system with a battery storage, so you don’t have to rely solely on the power grid?
And that’s why you have your own well in the garden, to which you’ve connected a pump that you operate with electricity from your battery storage?
And that’s why you have a wood stove in every room in addition to your central heating, so you’re not dependent on gas/oil?
And of course you can also use one of these wood stoves as a cooking station, so you can cook even if your electric stove breaks down?

That really makes sense to me, of course. I mean, the additional costs incurred by not relying on a single technology in all relevant areas are definitely absolutely justified.

Everyone has an alternative to the DSL connection nowadays in their pocket. Depending on the tariff and reception, streaming may not be unlimited, but you are not cut off from the internet with it. Supposedly, you can also make calls with these things.
