Even though the post is a bit older, we want to use our utility room similarly but without a sink. How large did you plan yours? We are currently planning with 7-8 sqm. Everything technology-related (air-water heat pump, external water storage 250l, ventilation system, electronics, etc.) should go in there. Additionally, if necessary, we also want to dry laundry there and also put shoes down. Also a few daily things like a vacuum cleaner. Are 8 sqm enough for that?

According to the plan, it has 9.1 sqm. I think 8 is very tight. Squeeze out a bit more.

Ok thanks, then we are not too far off with the 7.5. Thanks!

I would reconsider the sink. With a washing machine, you always need a basin to wash something out, soak stuff, etc. Maybe wash the dirty shoes... Maybe try to get a combination unit of heat pump and water tank? That might save you space.

When planning the utility room, one should keep in mind that it needs to be ventilated, windows, that it has a good connection to the kitchen, and preferably an exterior door, then it becomes a mudroom. Ours is set up like this: the back wall houses a large cabinet full of winter jackets and such, next to it the water heater of the solar system, the front wall opposite houses the washing machine, dryer, and sink, because water is already there anyway. Above the machines, a window. The wall to the kitchen has a door leading there, next to it a pantry cupboard for canned goods, cleaning supplies, dish towels, brushes and paint, also schnapps and juice are stored there, as well as cat food plus the bowls for it. Next to that is still space for the cats’ litter box and room for a folded drying rack and step ladder. A wall opposite the aforementioned remains free for the technology; there is the heating boiler, the freezer, the telecom modem, below that the valves and meters to read, on the floor in front of it stand our shoes currently in use. Next to all that is the door to the garden.
