The floor plan proves to be poor during the shell construction

First of all, congratulations from me as well that you are even allowed/can build. I also think that you can never build the "perfect" house, as usually at least two people have an influence and that inherently involves compromises. You will also be able to decide a lot with colors and furnishings ;)

But one thing immediately strikes me. You have 1x office and three! children's rooms. How many children do you currently have? Because your 10cm drywall!? walls in the upper floor are not great for a large family. Noticeable "luxury" or living quality is not only windows but also noise.

If children are only planned at the moment, ask yourselves whether you need space for max. 4! children. After all, you have to fill them with life. Some of our colleagues put the brakes after the first child and would now be sitting on 3 additional rooms. Here you can save money and create living space or loosen your somewhat tight division on the upper floor.

It will be fine ;)

We already have three children and we need the office because of work. That was also the biggest challenge to somehow get three children's rooms with a separate parents' area. We had also considered making the walls like on the ground floor, but then the extra cost was very high again. Unfortunately, you have to make many compromises because of the costs. Thanks for your suggestion though. Usually, you build before the children are there; that is definitely much more relaxed. We have already finished with family planning and had to get the best out of what we can manage. I hope we won't regret having such thin walls too much. At my parents' house, I actually had no problems with that.

That will settle down again once the ceiling is whitewashed. Your gloom is the usual postnatal depression of builders, and in the present case, in my opinion, objectively without findings. At the housewarming, you will be able to laugh about it. I see no urgent need for action here.

An architect once said to me, "in the shell construction phase, even castles look like underground car parks."

You have a lot of window area in the open plan living space and a lot of light comes in during the day.

You won’t miss the window in the living room that you’re missing, at the latest in midsummer, when it’s hot outside but still bearable inside the living room ;)

I can understand your concerns very well, we also built for the first time and I sometimes had sleepless nights fearing I was doing everything wrong.

At some point the realization came that there will always be something that could have been done differently or better. Don’t let such things spoil your joy of the house, once it’s finished and painted, the world looks completely different :) promised!
