How high will the garage be and what is your ceiling height? We also have the garage directly against a wall and have therefore installed a strip of windows that runs practically above the top edge of the garage and below the interior ceiling height. The concrete ceiling is practically already the window lintel.

Since the ceiling is already in place, an integrated lintel is no longer possible. So you couldn't make a window that high. But maybe the garage could be set deeper; I hadn't thought of that.

So far I have observed it until October with the sun, and in the evening the sun was still shining there. After 4 p.m. I will observe how it is in winter.

Thank you, I had also looked at the site. According to the site, the southwest side has no chance of sun, but in reality, there is sun there in the evening. I had already looked at the site before the building application. Of course, I also looked at the plot, but as it stands now, I would have done quite a few things differently in hindsight. For example, placing the kitchen on the street side and the living room facing the garden. Then you would have the sun all day in the living kitchen. A small evening terrace in front and the larger terrace in the back. But as I said, my husband did not want these options.

To be honest, I assume that you are no different than those of us who love the sun:
in the bright months: quickly do the daily work in the house and then out into the sun, that is, into the garden.
In the dark months: daily work a bit slower, preserving, cooking, playing with children, no matter if or where the sun is. In the evening it is dark anyway!
With 3 children you rather free up time in the evening, don't you?

I am also torn back and forth… we build once and there won't be a second time. I have the feeling that I missed the chance to build a house that would have been almost perfect. Everywhere it says orient your house to the west but we oriented it to the east because the street is in front. I just hope we won't regret this decision for a lifetime :(

Everyone dies on their last day, not before. You can only miss the chances of the second and third houses when the time comes. Only those builders who construct a house that is explicitly unsellable or sellable only with a financially damaging discount are nailed to the first house. As you can read here in a current neighboring thread, there are even interested parties for a sky-blue suicide house in Posemuckel, if the floor plan is not a labyrinth. The next house will probably come when the kids are out of the nest.
