Hello dear all,

what is your opinion on the subject of surveillance cameras? I am considering installing two in the outdoor area. I have already looked at the websites of the state data protection officers and picked out the must-haves (notice sign, deletion concept, exclude public space, etc.). The main purpose is deterrence and to find out what happens in my absence.
Do you have cameras on your property or even more than that (alarm system, etc.)? What are your reasons for or against it?

Thank you very much and best regards,
Andrea

I think you expect too much there.... because what exactly are you doing with the picture? So that later you know that exactly two guys with a dark blue mask broke in? And yet you watch 99.997% of the time in the evening the half-hourly summary of your neighbor's cats sneaking past your house during the day? At least then you'll be able to quickly greet them all by name

For "deterrence," a sign "Beware of the dog" and a decoy with a blinking LED is enough....

Then buy cheap decoys. You seriously want to watch all the recordings? And then? I fully agree with Scout!

Decoys, especially those with blinking LEDs, are very easy to recognize as such and certainly do not deter anyone.

We use the images to occasionally check on things and communicate with the person at the door... or also for vehicle recognition to open the gate when coming home. As information during absence on the phone to see, aha, the package is there, or similar. Also for recognizing if someone is still on the terrace/garden or in the carport and the house knows that someone is home.

To what extent this works as a deterrent, I really can't say; I don't think it really deters anyone. However, it is a convenience gain.

I would break into the house where the cameras are. They probably have money.
