so I don't need a wall unit, I don't have much that needs to be stored in the TV area. we only have 2 dvds. no blurays and other cds we watch everything over the internet. so you have to consider how much space you need. we have a 42 inch TV and a soundbar and that's it, all mounted on the wall, a small board underneath so it doesn't look so empty and sometimes the borrowed wii is on it. for us, one meter is enough it depends on your own situation

nevertheless I would place the couch with both legs or at least the long one against the wall, standing in the room like that a sofa really makes a room feel small
