You have to be somewhat wise about it. Whether I want to live on the ground floor or with stairs, or even with a basement, is not about fashion but about basic attitude. Whether I want a bathtub or just a shower, whether two bathrooms are necessary, whether a dressing room, an open kitchen or a separate room, whether the bedroom faces north or south, whether floor-to-ceiling exits are only in the living room or also in other rooms—none of this has to do with fashion but with need and what you can afford. Fashion is furniture, wallpaper, etc. When it comes to tiles, roof tiles, windows, and the like, I would never glance at fashion—think of the Bahama beige bathrooms of the 80s—but always rely on timelessness. White tiles, earth-colored floors, white windows, that is ALWAYS modern because never fashion! You then set the accent with carpet, lighting, picture, piece of furniture, wall colors. Pleated blinds. Those are the variables. Karsten
