Stress-free building - Who has tips or experiences on how to do it?

About 800 hours from construction helpers among friends and family (unpaid). About 3500 hours from me and my partner.

Outdoor facilities are currently still being built. Therefore, about 12 hours/week of construction helpers and about 15 hours/week from me are still added.

I can only say it again and again: On a construction site, there are so many simple tasks that anyone can do. For that, I wouldn't even want to spend €15 per hour on labor.

Of course, it was anything but stress-free. But to be honest: With the few trades that we outsourced completely (I can count on one hand), I had more mental stress than with those where I was involved myself.

Because it is less stressful ... No, but you pay for everything that others often postpone for a long time in new constructions (outdoor facilities, terrace, carport, ...).

Besides, most people make the house construction look better than it is, trying to get it as cheap as possible. You regularly hear here that existing properties are way too expensive and that's why people build to save money. A misconception in my opinion.

Just like with us! Doing it yourself is less stressful; a cosmetic defect doesn’t hurt because you can say you did it yourself.

When you pay 50 EUR/hour for a specialist company, every cosmetic defect leads to stress.

Exactly.
Furthermore, there are many things to do that you don't see afterwards. Especially in those cases, you have to look very closely if you don’t do it yourself.
No one can tell me that a profit-oriented company, for example, insulates the floor under the underfloor heating as meticulously as we did.

But if you want it stress-free, you just shouldn’t look at those things.

That's more than 400 8-hour days, so more than 2 full years. How long did you build? :O During that time I alone would have earned the 120k gross – and would not have lifted a finger on the construction site. But I did do a little something after all. Laid floors and interior painting. I would estimate the savings for this at less than 10k.

I see it differently. Every cosmetic defect then leads to a defect claim. Whoever finds a defect claim too stressful should reconsider whether building is right for them.

Even the contributions for the BG Bau alone have already been immense...
