Hello Kati, I just admired your house. Mine will only be half as small. I also considered squeezing the washing machine and dryer into the bathroom.
I had thought about that too, but I wouldn’t know where. The bathroom is already generally at its limit if you don’t want to give up anything. There is currently no space for a shelf for towels. But that could be mounted on the wall or something if necessary.
It’s just due to the size, but for one person that’s certainly sufficient. Probably the laundry situation isn’t that dramatic either. I currently wash for 4, and one of them is 4 years old, so it feels like I’m washing for 10. ;)
I would think twice about the smoker’s room. Assuming you want to / have to sell the house at some point, that could be a huge disadvantage. Smoke can’t be confined to one room, even if you only smoke in one room. Nowadays most people are non-smokers, and when they come into a house / room where smoking takes place, they notice it much more than a smoker would. Even if you renovate before viewings, you can’t easily undo it. The smell lingers very persistently. My sister has been a smoker for ages too. She has actually held back rigorously in her own home so far. She goes outside to smoke but has made her car a smoker’s car. (I don’t want to get into the health aspects of what that means in a car... well, let’s leave it at that ;) )
Have you already talked to an architect / energy consultant about the cat flap? Are there cat flaps that meet today’s energy standards?
