Strictly speaking, almost everything in house demolition is hazardous waste.

Okay, and what danger is supposed to arise if the outer layer is damaged?

Voki brought up a report from the Umweltbundesamt. It states, for example: [...] Even those living in a house with HBCD-containing insulation boards do not have to fear negative effects on their health according to current knowledge, provided they are applied properly, since only a small amount of HBCD escapes from the boards during the usage phase, which could be absorbed by residents through the air or household dust. As a precaution, substances like HBCD should not be released at all so that they cannot accumulate either in the human body or in the environment. I actually did not want to go that deep, since on the one hand I unfortunately have to leave the discussion immediately, and on the other hand other reasons besides the blessings of chemistry deter me from such insulation measures. For the sake of fairness, however, I would like to add that – with unprotected insulation boards – only very low concentrations of the discussed HBCD are washed out by rainwater. Ultimately, every builder has to decide for themselves what they want and what not. You decided on an ETICS and that is your good right; another builder decides on a differently constructed facade. What I expect from all discussants here is only that it remains factual; we surely won’t get any less smart by seriously reconsidering an opposing opinion ;) Rhineland greetings

As far as I'm concerned, everyone can insulate however they want. I earn my money in a completely different field. But the purpose of a forum is, after all, to exchange "information." And if panic arises because completely wrong assumptions and arguments are being used, then one should certainly point that out accordingly. There are definitely reasons to decide against ETICS with EPS, but building climate and mold, etc. are definitely not among them. Yes, I myself chose EPS because it was offered to me by my architect at the time as a solution for my specific conditions, although she had 0.0 experience with it. That was generally the case in my region. Here, except for one other house, none have ETICS because everything here is uniformly brick-clad (which is actually cheaper here!!!). Therefore, I was forced to research myself and deal with it very intensively. Although I am an engineer in another field, I am certainly able to understand and calculate technical/physical/chemical properties. If you yourself calculate certain things like water vapor diffusion of building materials, or study chemical separation processes of HBCD with polymer chains, you can quite well assess what statements from an interlocutor (salesperson, advisor, industry, panic-monger...) are worth. Especially in house construction, a lot of emotions are used to sell one's products/solutions.

Oops, a whole series of trump arguments. Who is supposed to dare to represent their opinion here with your training now? This should probably make the entire contribution unnecessary. ;)

Why? Quite trivial decisions speak against an ETICS for not a few builders. In this respect, it can be discussed perfectly well apart from chemistry, engineers & co.

Go ahead - why did you decide against it?

Rhenish greetings
