Especially with the grass shears and mini hedge trimmers, the weak point is in the cutting mechanism; after cutting approximately 200-500m of lawn edges, they no longer cut. Now we have Aldi and I constantly sharpen the blades. 3 years of Makita had slightly longer service life. The line trimmers are more effective there.

Thanks. How are the batteries of your Metabo system? Are they still okay so far?

In the first step, we probably need an edge trimmer / grass trimmer. One of those long ones, either with a line or, at Einhell, there are also small plastic blades. However, those wear out quickly and are expensive to replace. So probably line.

Then hedge trimmer, grass shear, and prospectively a battery-powered mower, I think. But I haven’t really dealt with that yet.

We have Bosch for tools and vacuum cleaners, in the garden sector Gardena - batteries fit all devices. For the tools, it must always be the green Bosch devices.

Gardena I have ruled out for myself. I recently had an experience with them. Bought a garden spray, thought "Gardena, you can't go wrong," both the adapter on the outdoor water tap and the spray were broken in less than a year. I bought them in mid-2021, and by spring 2022 both parts were broken. Even though they were advertised as "frost-proof." They were stored in the shed. Since I didn’t think to keep the receipt due to the low purchase price – I have to admit, I also didn’t expect them to break so quickly that it would become a warranty case – customer service couldn’t help me either. Well, long story short: I won’t throw money out the window on Gardena stuff anymore. :D

Hi,

I have quite a few cordless devices from Worx in use here: lawn mower, leaf blower, (string) trimmer, lawn edger, LED construction site spotlight, polishing machine, and a rotary hammer. They all do what they are supposed to and have held up so far. For example, the cordless rotary hammer has almost completely retired the (blue) Bosch hammer for me. That thing easily makes 12 mm holes in a reinforced concrete ceiling. I think that's great for a compact cordless device! I find the thing with the universally compatible batteries extremely practical. By now, I only buy the devices without batteries since I have enough batteries. Saves a lot of money.

Best regards,

Andreas

We once had such a device with plastic blades, never again. They wore out super fast and the plastic then lies in small pieces in the garden. Microplastic in the lawn... no thanks. After using it twice, we switched back to line and now have a thick power device, I should check which brand, it works great. Better to size up than have to buy a second device later because the first is too weak. Both for the battery and the power.

Regarding battery systems, we have Makita, Metabo, Wolfcraft and I think at least one more. All mixed up because we didn’t think about it at all - probably smarter to buy one system and stick to it ;)

Overall, we have also experienced that it is better to buy something a bit higher quality (=more expensive), otherwise you get frustrated after a year, put the device aside and then buy a replacement in "better".
