You are under a huge misconception.

At a time when there were no computers, I took a typewriting course at the community college and successfully completed it. I was the only man among 20 office girls. It was great.

Along the way, I learned to type without correction using 10 fingers and on good days at 250 keystrokes per minute.

In practice, this means that I can type about 5-8 times faster than you. In the end, I write twice as much in a fraction of the time you need.

The problem will keep recurring. Therefore, as the previous speakers said, I would get a rotary hammer. It doesn't have to be anything special, brand almost doesn't matter. For the few uses per year, I would buy a corded one, possibly even second-hand from classifieds. For example, I use a small, old Bosch Professional rotary hammer that is about 25 years old. Then good, 4-edged SDS drill bits (Hilti TE-CX, Bosch SDS 7x, Milwaukee MX4, etc.). For 5mm - 8mm diameter absolutely no problem.

I used to have only a small hammer drill with Bosch Professional masonry drill bits. With that, I had no chance in the concrete ceilings in the basement. With a rotary hammer and Hilti TE-CX drill bits, it was ridiculously easy. By the way: I also believe that an inexpensive rotary hammer is absolutely sufficient. Back then, I bought a rotary hammer with integrated dust extraction. I now have many devices, but that was probably the best purchase. With the integrated dust extraction, you can also drill very well in living rooms without making a huge mess.

Borrowed a rotary hammer from the hardware store around the corner, got a drill bit for stone concrete with it, and everything went like clockwork or like butter, depending. Thanks for your input.

That could be where the problem lies. You write so fast that you can't keep up with your thinking...

I would also like to add my two cents. First of all, I’m glad that it worked so well. Some time ago I faced the same situation, wanted to hang curtain rods, nothing worked. Until my father said I had to switch on the hammer function. And lo and behold, no problem. You learn something new, even with very simple things. And from the response here in the thread, you can tell that it affects many people.

I can also strongly recommend, as suggested by , buying the Bosch hammer drill. I bought the -28 model back then on sale, and it has accompanied me through many renovation tasks. Absolutely recommend buying it.

By the way, I also have a question: my impression is that the hole gets a bit wider or "frayed" when drilling nowadays. I suspect that due to numerous chiseling tasks the drill chuck has suffered and no longer runs perfectly round. Is it sufficient to simply buy a new SDS drill chuck?
