Everything is a bit confusing and hidden with them. The normal house connection costs 500 EUR. A "construction power connection" would cost me an additional 200-300 EUR. If I apply for the eMobility preparation directly, everything is provided free of charge.

So far, I naively assumed that 1. technically different installations are carried out here and 2. that the whole thing is basically free of charge for advertising and/or funding reasons. Only now have I realized that nothing technically different happens here, but the customers are solely bound to the switchable tariffs. Hence also the requirement and specification to use a separate meter :(

Can't you just have your electrician lay the cable for it? I have the standard meter cabinet used by the general contractor, one meter through which everything runs, that is, house electricity and heat pump and soon also the wall box. I had the cable laid out during construction. It is connected in the house and at the wall box. Done. I even have 2 more spots for meters.

That's where the problem lies.
€1,200 surcharge for changing from a meter box with 1 meter to one with 2 meters.

Is that normal? (Yes... surcharges for special requests are never normal in trades :D)

An additional meter also always causes higher costs since it is "rented" from the network operator. I believe I read something about €100-150 per year for a second meter in heat pump discussions.

Maybe we don't want to but most likely we will have to. On the one hand because of the grid regulation. The same problem as with the heat pump. The electricity providers don’t want peak loads caused by heat pumps and cars. Both the electricity and the grid providers. The other point is taxes. If gasoline and diesel disappear, a lot of money will be missing. Just like diesel vs. heating oil, driving electricity will eventually be taxed higher.
But I would only start worrying about that if you want a car tariff soon. The current meter won’t be compatible with the driving electricity tax regulation from 2035 anyway.

I can :) I have already ordered the laying of the corresponding cables into the garage, but unfortunately this is not the "main problem" here. I have gradually come to understand that Westnetz is simply enticing customers with actions and free "connection preparations" to bind them later to regulations and their own requirements. One of the requirements is, after all, an additional meter in case operating a wallbox is desired later.

Unfortunately, I do not have the luck like you to have a large cabinet with more meter slots available and have always rejected such so far, as it was actually not necessary. At least according to previous opinions and statements. Now, however, the statement came up in a roundabout way that the space must be reserved for the future operation of a wallbox.

Unfortunately, I did not understand the background and tried to weigh whether €1,200 additional cost for the preparation (larger meter cabinet) is really necessary.

But I think I have now understood the issue and thank you all for your support. So it can be considered done :)

Certainly not normal. At least I consider the €1,200 practically extortionate and will probably decide against it. If it really becomes necessary in X years, I will have to bite the bullet and possibly upgrade then. Currently, I do not see the point.

I am aware that an additional meter always causes higher costs. That is why I have so far refrained from further meters in connection with the heat pump. Although the municipal utility more or less insinuated that I am stupid and belong to the only 5% who would forego the great heat pump tariffs, I can live with that :)

I do not plan to use corresponding tariffs anytime soon and will therefore follow the advice and not provide additional meters :)

Thanks to everyone!

Hi everyone, unfortunately, it is no longer possible to apply at progres.nrw. The only option left is the KfW with 900€.

We are in the same situation as the original poster. We currently do not have an electric car and do not know when we will buy one. I have obtained an offer which includes a wallbox (Wallbe 2.0s) from freundlichen. My personal contribution after deducting the subsidy would be 300€.

Would you go for it now or wait?
