Hi,

as an amateur, I really like this design. I would reconsider the tree at the driveway entrance. Depending on how its roots grow, it could damage your pavement or that of the neighbor + the street (this also applies to the others in the front yard).

Also, I would avoid anything at the driveway that obstructs the view when driving out.

Best regards

Michael

I have now changed the front garden again (trees were replaced by shrubs) and the terrace flooring, as it should either be polygonal or more elongated flooring:

So I can say something about potatoes 2 sqm is not worth it at all

Last year we also planted about 5 sqm of potatoes, and actually just for fun. The fun ended when about 100 Colorado potato beetles attacked the plants. We were practically attacked by the beasts every evening. After digging up the potatoes, we barely harvested anything, but found a lot of beetle larvae...
So it was a lot of effort for a good handful of potatoes
And since we live in the Pfalz, the German home of the potato, we prefer to leave the cultivation to the village market
You can’t store them in a new building anyway.

What I can recommend is beetroot... this year at least 20 sqm of it will be grown. Pickled sour, the whole family fights over it afterwards, especially my little son.
Otherwise, we are lucky to have completely crazy neighbors who have been self-sufficient for 20 years and grow WAY TOO MUCH. Every summer we get a head of lettuce and 1-2 cucumbers every day.

We also plan to plant a Constantinople quince. They are beautiful trees that also bear delicious fruit
And are relatively disease resistant. If you cut them regularly, they also stay under 5m in height.

Hello ypg,

on your plan I am missing a trash bin spot.
I have a nice solution for that, a garden box recessed into the ground.

You mean leaving out the hedge further forward? Or how?? The problem is that we have a dog area. Those who have dogs have set up a fence or are in the process of doing so. I find a fence too expensive – I also don't see why all the dogs would pee in our little garden just because a boundary is missing. Maybe we want a small one, then a small rabbit fence at the lower part of the hedge is enough. In the west, we are lucky that the neighbor’s fence is already there....

That’s annoying. But I believe you have to make that experience yourself and then plant the bed differently. Try quartering beetroot and baking it in olive oil with rosemary or thyme for about 35 minutes. Later add some goat cheese on top and gratinate it.

Laugh, I’m glad our holes are finally closed. Nevertheless, I find the design quite interesting. I could also imagine using three of these concrete rings as raised beds in the garden. Trash bins are parked between the house and the garage or will go into the storage behind the garage (integrated). I have to get everything sorted out calmly. Regards Yvonne
