You have to earn well for that. Even with an annual gross salary of €70,000 for 35 hours/week, you only get €24.50/hour net. Even if I take twice as long as the craftsman, I end up being cheaper, because where else do you get anyone for €50/hour? On the other hand, not everyone has the possibility to simply work more to earn more money.

Electrical work completely done by myself. Sacrificed 2 weeks of vacation for it. Saved nothing, because the saved money went into more materials and equipment.

Meter cabinet also self-made? Solid construction or prefabricated house?

Especially with electrical work, I am also considering..

Everything completely done by myself including network, TV, satellite, ceiling empty conduits, etc... except for the house connection box, that is done by the VNB.

Solid house with sand-lime brick walls and concrete ceilings. Chasing slots is a real mess, I tell you.

Of course, only with professional electrician qualification.

I thought you were a banker?
Did you slit horizontally or lay the cables on the raw floor or [Leerrohre] in the concrete ceiling?

We laid the floor (laminate) ourselves, installed the door frames + doors, carried out the final installation of the sanitary fixtures, did part of the planting, painted the basement, and completed all electrical work in the basement. Whether we really saved anything, I don’t know, since you spend a lot of time and sometimes need tools you didn’t have before. But at least we did a bit ourselves on the house (besides cleaning up).
