Hello everyone,
We didn't help much with the house itself, as our focus was more on awarding the trades, which took a lot of time for research and appointments. Nevertheless, we couldn't resist doing a few things ourselves:
Out of curiosity and since we know our carpenter well, we helped insulate the upper floor ceiling including the roof structure and roofing (took one weekend). It was fun, and we gained experience and saved about €1500 in the process.
Furthermore, we did the preparation work for the interior plaster ourselves, such as setting the Stucanet, painting adhesion primer on concrete parts, etc. I don't know how much we saved there - it wasn't much.
Then we also helped the specialist company with setting the panoramic fireplace – saving another €1000. However, the motivation here was more the interest in the matter itself.
Last but not least, lots of painting work, ceiling spots and lamps, and all the little things.
What I never wanted to do and didn’t do was the preparation work for the screed, such as insulating the floors, etc. When I see the expert who can do a floor in one day (alone), compared to friends of mine who need a week for the same area – phew. And as clean as he did it, we personally could never do it.
