We did the flooring and painting ourselves. If you have a family, a full-time job, and a few hobbies, that is more than enough. We helped a bit with other trades...

If you are handy and have a few good friends who help out properly, you can do a lot yourself.

Especially with the exterior area ([Garten, Einfahrt usw..]), you can save a lot of money by doing it yourself.

I have now read several times here that the electrical work was done by yourself. How is the acceptance supposed to work?

I had a qualified electrician by my side. I made the channels and pulled the cables, he did everything including the fuse box and meter applications and inspection.

In fact, I only prepared everything, he wired and tested everything.

Otherwise, it probably wouldn't have worked for the reason you mentioned.

Ok. That would be something already. I would like to wire everything with impulse switches in preparation for a central control, but the work effort is very high. Did the electrician want you to use material from him, or were you allowed to use your own?

Everything with impulse switches? That's considerably more expensive and has nothing to do with a general central wiring.

Don't underestimate the effort of the electrical installation - yesterday I was chasing grooves in the basement floor with a friend and lowered the box holes. It's not pleasant work and you should have the right tools, otherwise it becomes torture.

The nice thing is that you can still plan very flexibly and while laying the cables something might come up that makes boxes unnecessary or creates new demand.

You quickly see that planning is often just theory... at least non-expert planning.

My electrician was my wife’s uncle, so my uncle-in-law. Of course, we used the materials he was most comfortable with, but we were able to get the materials practically at cost price.
