At my last employer, a new HR manager was hired with the new executive management. Everything was supposed to become younger, more dynamic, and more health-oriented. A young guy who came from the startup sector. One of his first ideas was to offer free, healthy snacks for the employees - fruit, nut mixes, fitness bars. After three months, the experiment was discontinued because there were some employees who hoarded fruit and fitness bars as soon as the delivery service brought the new shipment. And relaxed in the afternoon making a fruit salad, thus saving on their own meals. Or took the bars home for sports after work. Appeals to behave more collegially and responsibly fizzled out. In a bigger discussion, the argument was then made that it hadn’t been specified how much each employee was allowed to take and that they could have simply ordered more. Not only were there no more snacks afterward, new ideas like more home office opportunities were no longer enforceable.
