If you had to completely rebuild this apartment from scratch? With a new bathroom? New kitchen? New flooring and new walls? Then with purchase incidental costs, you would definitely be at 450,000 €. Would anyone take on this bottomless pit? You just keep throwing money in.... I consider myself to be part of the healthy middle class, so for me the risk would be too high...

Now it is becoming very unobjective and trollish. Why should one rebuild walls? Well, maybe you should rather take care of your bank appointment, and then see what junk you can afford.

Sorry if it may seem trollish, I don't know much, that's why I'm here. But isn't it true that the walls everywhere have to come down, meaning the tiles, and old floors need to be redone? Everything looks pretty run-down. So if you're not a craftsman yourself and don't bring experience, materials, and time, I honestly can't imagine anyone putting up with this who is looking for something solid for themselves without much risk. I mean, the property is 50 years old, anything could come up. Like I said, it wouldn't be for me and it's overpriced. Especially since with 500,000 you could work quite differently on a house. I didn't want to question your intellect, but many people start small here, don't they? You don't just buy a property straight out of your parents' house at 18, so you have to ask stupid questions to learn more.

The bathroom will be a tough one, agreed. But otherwise - you trained as a painter! You can also do the floors yourself plus install new doors. If the owners' minutes are OK, likewise the community reserves, this is not a bottomless pit but totally fine. What would you pay new for something like this on the outskirts of Hamburg, 500 or 600,000?

Certainly, but: you can never manage 500,000 with your salary. However, as an entry-level property, certainly OK. If you have paid off part of it and the financial situation is better, you can eventually think about a house. If you pay rent, it will probably never work out because then you cannot save as much equity while prices keep rising. And a condominium on the outskirts of Hamburg will always have value. I think with 50,000 renovation and a lot of own labor, it can be a nice castle for two.

I'll say this: you have to buy what you can afford in the expensive area or keep renting. Unfortunately, you two don't have a big salary for the commuter belt of a big city. (also the question again whether one could retrain or something similar) And you used to be a painter, right? You should be able to do ceilings, walls, etc. yourself? You'll probably also be able to assemble a kitchen as well as lay some tiles. Besides, you've been looking for a few hours. Normally people search for months or years, and eventually something more attractive will come along.
