A lot can already fit into two 3.5-ton Sprinters or flatbeds (4.2m length). You are allowed to drive them with a regular B driving license...

Some moving companies also have volume calculators on their websites. You can already click together your furniture there and get a recommendation on how large the vehicle should be.

We have also gone through a move over a long distance. We had companies from the future residential region because we also had to store items there. We had to list exactly in advance what was coming along and the measurements of the furniture. They then calculated what vehicles they would need, sent boxes and packing materials in advance, and we packed ourselves. The move took the company 3 days; they left early in the morning, arrived in the afternoon, and already started loading. The next day they emptied the entire house from morning till evening, due to quiet hours they had to stay overnight again, and then they left early in the morning and, upon arrival, moved everything into storage. We had already moved ourselves everything that we would need in the meantime and did not want to store. We had also sold, given away, and disposed of a lot beforehand. I am still astonished today how much stuff one can have in a house…

I also find the prices heavy and would save them if possible.

So far, I have always moved myself and my brother. Up to 7.5t you are allowed to drive yourself with a license from before 1999. Possibly also a long Sprinter, then you can move quite a lot. The prices for a weekend are actually okay. Don’t you have a few friends who can support you and possibly also drive a 7.5 tonner or bigger? Also a tip from my wife if you bring many pieces of furniture. Take a photo of each compartment, print it out and hang it in the cabinet. That way, even someone uninvolved can unpack the boxes and put them in the closets. At your future place, you have quite a few acquaintances and relatives, if I remember correctly.

You will surely drive there a few times beforehand. If you have storage options at the new house or with acquaintances, you can already take a larger load with a Sprinter.

Do not underestimate the amounts that add up there. For my mother, that was the "filling" for a 130 sqm house (which is also quite full). That was a complete truck convoy, meaning a large truck with a large trailer. You can do a move of a 40 sqm apartment with a Sprinter, but not a house...

Best regards,

Andreas

Get offers from local companies. They will come to inspect and plan the volume of the truck/Sprinter and the number of boxes and a price. With the information, you can decide whether to do it yourself or hire someone. (Die Firmen können auch Überseecontainer auspacken und den Inhalt aufbauen, was sind da 600km)
