The task. Job change, son moves from Vienna, old town apartment to Wiesbaden, new building apartment, first occupancy. Time, beginning of 12/21. About a 7.5-ton moving load. I was there in October and we consulted. Moving company Vienna Wiesbaden, nothing will be done for less than 3000. No private car available. After a lot of back and forth, the solution is to sell as much as possible in Vienna, fly with Austrian to Wiesbaden, I’ll help you, I am retired after all. I have time. We meet on 1.12. in Vienna in a holiday apartment, on 2.12. he receives the apartment, I pick up a VW bus from Sixt in Mainz Kastel, which we rent for three days. With it to Jysk and Ikea, big shopping. Bring everything into the apartment. Day one is gone and we know what we have done. Expenses 1500,- furniture, car 650,-, holiday apartment 450,-. Next morning the two of us drive early to Vienna, wife stays in Vienna and already starts setting up the new things. At 16:00 we are in Vienna and load everything that was not sold and that we are attached to into the VW. It gets full, really full. At 19:00 we leave Vienna and are back in Vienna at three in the morning. Costs, 180,- diesel plus some small change at BurgerKing near Linz. And a few euros vignette for the Austrian highway. Day two. Day three is reserved for furnishing and setting up, VW bus returned in the evening. Another night in the holiday apartment and I travel home. Move done, me also done, it was exhausting. Financially it was close to three thousand, but you have to subtract the sales proceeds of the used furniture, so maybe about 2000,- net. But it was more work than expected, especially the furniture assembly, disposing of the 1000 boxes, mounting the lamps and also the long travel time Vienna Wiesbaden we had underestimated. From a Schleswig Holstein perspective it all looks close together, just all Catholic land, but Catholic land is big after all. Nevertheless, the apartment is newly furnished, also nice, and a little adventure belongs to life. K.

I hope your son is adequately grateful to you.
It is not a given.

Maybe later he will put my wife and me in a somewhat nice nursing home with pretty caretakers?

It was 880 km. Although we only lived in a semi-detached house, we still had a lot of stuff (two adults, a toddler, two cats with various scratching posts, and already some furniture for child number two). As far as I remember, we then paid between 2200-2300 euros (including bubble wrap and such). We definitely didn’t regret the extra cost compared to the first move (which we did ourselves), because it was much more relaxed with professional support, especially since we had no helpers except for my parents (who are not that young anymore and don’t enjoy carrying that much), and my wife was not allowed to do much due to pregnancy.

I would know that… …only know the store from the outside.
