Take old/previous furniture to the new house or get "everything" new?

… but there are also those who need the catalog furniture for the catalog house because they need the cocooning into a different role.

You can't say that in general terms. I didn't even have the kitchen for three years (like all the furniture) and simply drew the floor plan so that it fits. With the addition of the dishwasher, only a new countertop was needed. That was a total of 1000€ and certainly no comparison to a new purchase. Otherwise, everything was almost new and therefore moved with us. Now that each offspring has their own room, of course one had to be set up. Luckily, one daughter had a birthday a week after the move... The other now always complains that she got the old furniture...

We didn’t buy anything new, except for a few lamps. Everything went from the old apartment to the house, we didn’t have money for anything else anyway and it wasn’t really necessary, everything was still fine. I would have liked to have a new kitchen, since the old one was already bought used and had been through several moves.... but you know what? It’s still there and doing its job.

And we didn't clear out much either, since I declutter roughly every 6-12 months anyway and not much accumulates. I can only recommend this and will continue doing it in the house as well. Although we live in just 100m2, we still have plenty of free space in the cupboards and in the basement, and the garage and shed are not full either, even though we still have all the garden stuff.

Absolute agreement, proportionality can easily get lost in a frenzy. "Pointless" is a very flexible term. Strictly speaking, almost everything we buy is pointless. More broadly, everything is "meaningful" that truly brings us joy, and even more broadly, we can convince ourselves that "meaningful" is whatever brightens our mood at the moment of purchase. That is the stuff with which we consumers justify our acquisitions. Heated and ventilated massage seats in the car with 8 programs for driver and passenger – super "meaningful"... just don't get upset because the function isn't available for the back seat...

We will also take everything that is present in terms of furniture. Only our sofa not. It is simply completely worn out and would have long since been replaced if the move in the near future were not planned.
