Morning,
I am usually a silent reader, but now it has hit us too. We bought a plot of land and have been in talks with several companies since the beginning of the year. One was super expensive, others never contacted us again after the initial meeting, and two are still in the running. However, we now have a bad feeling about our favorite. Situation: In the model home park, we found a solid house provider whose concept we quite liked. The first appointment was really good, he welcomed us well, of course everything was no problem, unfortunately also some competitor bashing (which we always find somewhat unprofessional). Three days later the attractive offer arrived. We can remove trades as desired, credits are generous. Now we wanted to know how the house should look. Weeks later the terrible floor plan, not at all as discussed, but they tried to sell it to us as heaven on earth. "The best we could get for you, ideal, exactly as you wanted," etc. Then another appointment, we explained again, including window sizes, layout, rooms, etc. At this appointment (about four weeks later) we were supposed to make a decision soon. Since it is a completely new development area and the development plan offers a lot of leeway, we were pressured to be among the first, otherwise we would have to conform to the neighboring buildings and our dream house would be gone. Well, then the next appointment: there was a new price but no new floor plan, again pressure with the same story. From then on, I got calls or WhatsApp inquiries every two or three days asking if I had received the email. Eventually, as a full-time working father, I did not answer immediately anymore. Then the new floor plan arrived, which was quite good with a few changes. By that time I had already asked several times for the construction and service description but never received it, with the statement that the (very sparse and vague) offer would count. However, it only says, for example, lever faucet, nothing more. Since we wanted to assess the quality of the equipment, they suggested an appointment for a pre-selection. Unfortunately, the pre-promised specific sanitary facilities we wanted (Axor) were not even available for an extra charge. At that appointment, I received the so-called "irrelevant" CSD [BLS], but after lunch it suddenly disappeared from my seat, which I only noticed at home. By the way, it was already noticeable at this appointment that statements contradicted each other. Again calls asking what is going on, someone needed the next on-site appointment quickly, again the neighboring building story, etc. I explained that I first need to know what is included and in what form. More details, etc., the contract beforehand. This then arrived by post last week. My wife and I worked through the documents. Questions arose particularly about what all needs to be done "on our side." So, four days after dispatch, we made the appointment he requested – and then came the shock. We entered the room and all contracts were laid out in duplicate on the table; we knew what it was about. I immediately said: Wait, we still have questions and will not sign immediately, and then he became abusive and interrupted me without letting me explain why I didn’t respond immediately on WhatsApp. My wife wanted to leave the room but reason prevailed, as we actually like the house. So it began: answering questions, he was clearly annoyed—"I already explained this," "that's obvious," "it's always done this way," "this part of the CSD is irrelevant to you." He lied to us several times. I even asked special questions that my wife and I knew the answers to, to test him. So many lies. It was like this, the building regulations say that but you can’t then build your dream house, etc. Moreover, he had already invested so much in us and feels fooled by us and really turned unpleasant. A great way to start a conversation... a few additions were handwritten into the offer. And then we left appalled... What to do? You don’t treat customers like that who still have questions at the 4th appointment. Actually, we no longer want to sign there either, because after so many contradictions and lies, there is a bad taste and we no longer trust what he told us. However, we find the construction company good and believe they do a good job. But since I have heard that others ended up with six-figure costs from the selection process, I don’t believe all costs have been transparently disclosed or that expensive "surprises" won’t come. The trust is simply gone and how am I supposed to build a house like that and have contact persons. What would you do? I have already considered going directly to the company and asking for a different advisor for these reasons. We would like to, but we don’t trust... Of course, he has his commission in mind, which is understandable, but I can only tolerate pressure with false facts and obvious lies to a limited extent. Distant acquaintances have also built with him, and they ended up at each other’s throats because something promised was not done, and they banned him from the house. His style appears to be known to management... Well, what to do? Thanks for reading and have a good start to the week! Ari
