KFW targets insulation, heat pumps, solar energy (photovoltaics and/or solar thermal) and mechanical ventilation as measures to reduce energy demand. With that, you are technically fixed. A rogue who suspects good lobbying behind it.

Imagine that there is one or more persons in your family who tend to suffer from depression in winter. Imagine that they enormously benefit from a "sun-like" heat radiation source and "nature-smelling" fresh air. At the moment you plan a masonry heater, you are excluded from some KfW classes. However, a masonry heater can be operated CO2 neutrally if the wood comes from the right source or if you practice sustainable forestry yourself.

Imagine that due to the location of your house you can generate energy from a small wind power plant – summer and winter. It’s just not photovoltaic.

There are many functioning old and new concepts that are simply excluded.

10,000 Houses Program likewise. The focus there is primarily on technology.

Thanks for your explanation. Yes, I have even considered whether it would make sense to install a masonry heater as a heat source instead of a heat pump in a well-insulated new build, a cozy, compact 130 sqm house. The wood demand should be quite low. But I have too many question marks for myself, and first, one would need to find a stove builder who can really implement this well so that the entire house is well heated and not overheated. Well, I still have some time... ^^ Regards Specki

- A basic stove alone could be difficult to heat all rooms depending on the floor plan and comfort requirements. , as far as I remember, has also installed spot IR heaters. I would plan first and then see if you can take advantage of any subsidies or not. The Energy Saving Ordinance leaves a lot of room for maneuver. The most important thing is that you plan at all.

Both are correct. IR for the two "granny flats" that the children still live in and will be used sporadically or as holiday apartments later. Nevertheless, there is also a stove in each of them. In the main house IR / electric heating as a supplement (doesn't look like we will need it) and frost protection (when we travel in winter). The total electricity demand is easily covered annually by the photovoltaic system – even with full IR use in the granny flats. In winter, we (still) buy energy. In a few years, a small wind turbine will follow and somewhat later a hydrogen energy storage system.

The wood consumption is low. Buy some forest land in addition, then it is also sensationally cheap. But only if you enjoy doing it yourself. Your open questions are absolutely valid: Yes, a stove builder is very important! Yes, overheating can happen – you eventually learn it or open the window more often at critical spots. More effort is required – the stove needs to be fed, the wood stored and procured/harvested... Costs: A nice basic stove is quite expensive. There are many very good reasons to not use a basic stove as the main heating system. I find it important that the own idea of living is the focus during the house construction and that the technology adapts to that. If the whole thing is then eligible for subsidies: all the better. Orienting yourself according to the subsidies and excluding other solutions from the start due to the conditions sometimes strongly limits the planning of the best house for the builders.
