Hello everyone,

we are in the middle of building our house and are currently planning the final details of our future kitchen.
Actually, we were very satisfied with our kitchen during the planning at the kitchen store.
After a few nights and further considerations, we now have some concerns about our wall cabinets.
Now to our problem:
On the right, almost at the wall, we have an induction cooktop with a downdraft extractor.
Directly above it is currently a wall cabinet offset on the wall. In principle, it doesn’t have to be symmetrical. From a distance, we also think it fits well with the 3 wall cabinets.
But we suspect it might be a bit strange when standing directly in front of the cooktop because only half the cabinet hangs above it, not the whole one.
Well, we thought - we’ll take one less wall cabinet and extend the dark back panel up to the top edge of the wall cabinets. But then we miss the light in the corner above the cooktop and don’t know how to best get it there.

We don’t want to place the cooktop on the island.

Possibly important:
The wastewater connection for the sink/dishwasher is already installed.
Electricity/water is not yet installed.
The 10 cm on the right between the wall and the cooktop will probably only be 7 cm.

Maybe someone has a great idea on how we could solve this. :)

Best regards

Matze + wife

Hi Matze,
did I understand correctly that you then have no good way to connect something from the desired illuminated spot to the power supply?

Since your kitchen is not small, it is questionable whether so many wall cabinets are necessary?! I would personally extend the wall cabinets on the left around the corner from the tall cabinets and then finish with an open shelf. Ceiling spots/lights then over the cooking area. I would not put a wall cabinet above the cooktop.

I would hang a nice open extractor hood above the stove and possibly work with 2 glass wall cabinets on the left, so it doesn’t look so "bulky," especially if you are standing directly in front of the stove or at the "chopping area." In principle, I might have swapped stove & sink, but that’s no longer possible, right? That way you would have had a surface on both the left and right of the stove (which I always find quite handy) and you wouldn’t be so pushed into the corner. Also, all the steam will settle on the wall to the right, of course also on the wall cabinets. Therefore, I definitely wouldn’t put cabinets above the stove and would choose an open extractor hood.

Honestly? With the size of the kitchen, extend the tall cabinets on the left all the way into the corner. The coffee machine, for example, can be well stored in a roll-up shutter cabinet. Integrate the tall cabinets into the drywall above and at the end to create the impression of a complete wall. Possibly leave the SBS standing alone. Then REMOVE ALL tall cabinets. I find them just annoying anyway and they should always be removed if there is enough space elsewhere. Nice shelf or wall decoration. Light off, spotlight from the ceiling.

I find the cooktop too close to the wall. Imagine a pan on the right. I would place the sinks further to the left and move the cooktop. The area between the cooktop and the sink is usually the workspace. I wouldn't plan any wall cabinets at all. It somehow feels too crowded.
