Kitchen planning - does this fit? Or have we overlooked something?

Hello everyone,

the shell of our house is progressing. The structural requirements are therefore in place; only detailed replanning might still occur.

Notes:
1. The pantry cabinet on the far left in the appliance wall will be 40cm instead of 30cm.
2. Unfortunately, the beam has to be there; it will be clad in the kitchen area and will then act almost as a visual separation between the dining area and the lounge/living area (plan left).
3. In case it's not recognizable: The dishwasher is located below the coffee machine.
3. The plan is oriented to north, the terrace is located at the bottom of the plan.

What do you think? Have we forgotten anything important or planned something rather suboptimal?

Thanks and regards

Hello,

I’ll start and give my two cents:

- With handleless, side-by-side, kitchen island, and counter, pretty much all clichés are fulfilled, which makes optimal planning rather difficult. The only thing missing is the carousel and a pantry. ;)

- I imagine a pantry cabinet with 30cm is very difficult. Does it at least have internal drawers?
We have a 30cm cabinet at the end of the built-in closet in the dressing room. We use it with pull-out boxes; otherwise, you'd almost have to empty the entire shelf when you need something from the back.
This is due to the wide SbS.

- The raised dishwasher is good, but having one side directly next to the sink row is rather suboptimal. Be prepared to regularly clean the front of the sink row because splashes will occur when loading/unloading the dishwasher.

- Do you really want the end panels of the island and the built-in closet like that? Usually, you can notch them out for the island; for the built-in closet, I could imagine that as well. Otherwise, you end up with 1000 corners on the floor where dirt can accumulate.

- Overall, I find the built-in closet very busy.
With 2 ovens, drawer, side-by-side, and KVA, there are too many visible appliances for me. Plus the panels between the individual cabinets, which are probably needed for the SBS?

- I would think twice about the glass doors under the counter – one kick and the glass is broken.

- Because of the counter, the front row of storage space is also only limitedly usable. You do have cabinets with 60cm depth, but with the counter, those cabinets MUST be equipped with hinged doors, which will be a crawl-fest if you ever need something from the back.

- If I’m seeing the sink row correctly, do you have a 5-raster kitchen? (Or even just 4-raster?) The division 1-1-2(3) (1 drawer – 1 drawer – 1 pull-out with 2(3) heights) offers little storage space. The 2-3 pull-out is correspondingly tall and difficult to use.
It would be interesting to see the division of the cooking side at the island.

- Overall, due to all these points, the kitchen offers relatively little storage space for its size.

At first, I also absolutely wanted a SBS, but I abandoned it for exactly these reasons.
It’s very hard to integrate when space is limited.
I can only advise you to reconsider it. Instead, we installed two separate appliances in the built-in closet. The result (see attachment) is more space than in a SBS, it’s tidier, and I don’t have an ice dispenser.
I don’t want to push it on you, but sometimes it’s worth reconsidering such fixed points. . :D

Sorry if this sounds so harsh now, but I definitely wouldn’t want the kitchen like this; it would be way too impractical for me at every corner.
can surely give you some tips as well.

We have also implemented a few things that not everyone likes. It’s enough that we’re happy with it. ;-)

As a tip, since it has proven itself very well for us in a short time, I would like to pass this on:
- a waste pull-out drawer directly under the countertop is great! Pull it out, wipe in the organic waste, done. Think about whether you want and can integrate it with 30 or better 40 cm width.
- I don’t regret the hinged door at the sink one bit. Without this otherwise often used waste pull-out, there is space for larger bins for the yellow sack and paper waste, which simply stand in the cupboard. If something falls beside, you don’t have to awkwardly lean over the pull-out front or whatever it’s called.
- our distance between the row and the island is a good 1.2 m. The sink and stove are positioned so that I can easily move back and forth with two steps. We can work quite comfortably as two and still leave drawers open. Only when two opposite drawers are open does it get a bit tight. With only 1 m distance, we would probably get in each other’s way.
- we have one drawer and below it two drawers of the same height. I’m very satisfied with the space and height, only that my vinegar and oil bottles don’t fit at that height was unplanned. They now stand in the wall cabinet above the sink, which turned out better – no bending down and close to the work surface where I prepare salads.

In that sense: based on the plan, consider where what should go and whether the drawer dimensions fit. These very tall lower pull-outs are actually more of a waste of space; most people have very few items that tall. :-)

hm... taste is subjective, but I would also avoid display cabinet doors at the base area. Otherwise, the cabinet surface is too busy for me. No symmetry, with the 40 cm unit on the left it looks cramped, I prefer a calm and symmetrical framing of the electrical fronts. What kind of surface does the roller shutter cabinet have? Appliances black, SbS silver gray, the front a different mottled? gray, then the roller shutter cabinet with a light gray nuance. The KVA is a bit high, isn’t it? You would probably always have to tilt the coffee cup down automatically? The corner window seems misplaced to me – it doesn’t match the kitchen layout at all, while I do like the arrangement of the wall cabinets by the side window. But the other window somehow hangs there disconnected.

Personally, I think the desire for symmetry has become exaggerated nowadays. Better to plan asymmetrically, especially when it comes to drawers, and thereby greatly increase usability.

I have no objections if the function is provided. But that is not the case here... ;)
