I just quickly googled to see if there is a similar fee system for energy consultants according to LP, like for architects. Unfortunately, I didn’t find anything and therefore cannot assess whether the amount you are asking for is reasonable or not. Maybe another forum member with insider knowledge can provide a well-founded opinion.

I see the possibility of politely and friendly discussing with your energy consultant whether he can reduce the amount, since from your point of view, measured against the price for the total effort of accompanying the house, it is very high. Possibly there is some room for negotiation or he might grant you a discount for immediate payment or something similar. Maybe knowledgeable forum members can provide an assessment of your energy consultant’s effort so far.

Also, you can always contact consumer protection and ask them what they consider reasonable. They may have comparable cases on file.

If I take advantage of a five-figure subsidy – and that is solely the responsibility of the builder – I would probably inform myself beforehand. Even in Bild it was conveyed what has already happened with the KFW this year; perhaps one might also think of taking time off for this amount?

Nevertheless, I believe you are mixing a few things here that actually have nothing to do with each other. 1. The energy consultant did his job and must be paid accordingly. Whether his invoice is reasonable, I cannot say. Whether he had to point out the details of the deregistration process to you, I do not know. Based on previous reactions, apparently not. Therefore, no blame can be attributed to him. 2. Whether the KfW funding in its previous form was sensible or not, how the ratio of subsidy share to interest is, etc. can all be discussed. Also to what extent the double funding for the granny flat was shamelessly exploited or not. But all of this has little to do with your application. 3. Due to the given circumstances, you probably were not sufficiently prepared for the application process, otherwise you would have known what to do. That turned out badly and is very annoying, but it is due to your circumstances. That's just how life sometimes is. And you shouldn't grieve over it too much. Family comes before disaster. Long story short: you pay the energy consultant and take the whole thing as a lesson learned, to be informed and prepared in good time in the future when it comes to building a house. This will certainly never happen to you again.
