Is the size of the house connection room sufficient?

Hello everyone,

unfortunately I do not have a basement and have only planned an interior HA room. We want to start building soon and I am currently getting quotes from some heating installers.

Do you think I can reasonably expect the companies to accept the size of my HA room? It will be about 1.7m x 2.7m. It will contain the electrical cabinet, water meter, water softener, water storage tank with 200L, and a district heating transfer station.

I will confront the companies with this in advance, but I just wanted to get a sense of how confidently I can defend the room. I am sure that the heating installers will immediately look at other rooms where they can expand.

The cabinet at the top left in the picture (nothing marked) is the area under the stairs. There is no standing height there anymore. The door opens outward.

Best regards, Martin

You should definitely coordinate this with your suppliers and be present on-site for every installation to ensure everything fits exactly – otherwise, each tradesperson will build theirs as it suits them, and the last trade will resist because there is not enough space. There are DIN standards for HA rooms – we have about 2.20x2.20 and that is already very tight...

What kind of telecommunications have you planned? Patch panel, switch, router, possibly [ONT] also need space. The cabling must be perfectly planned and implemented. Usually, free working areas are also needed next to the devices.

Telecommunications is nothing special planned. Everything you listed. Cable TV or SAT is not coming. It should all run over the internet. But I haven't thought much about it yet, since I think I could also build it under the stairs. I might want to do it myself.

I don’t know how the connections/meters for district heating are, but with us the heating system with storage had to have a 40cm clearance on the piping side so that the supplier could still reach it with their tools. Now our heating system, or rather the storage, is located on an area of 100 x 120 cm. There is no internal installation with us; it must have an outside wall. Do you have any other storage space, for example for a washing machine etc.? I think could help you with their compact HAR, but not in Germany, so without German building regulations.

Yes, there is a separate room for the washing machine and dryer. However, I don't want to bring any technology into this room. I have already spoken with the supplier and briefly shown the plan. No major concerns were raised.
