Is it sensible for the expert to inspect the base plate?

Thank you, that’s a good point. Maybe we’ll talk to our site manager again beforehand and ask what exactly he checks during his inspection. Of course, I’ll also ask the civil engineering company how critical the membrane would be if it was indeed removed too early (everyone is just still on vacation - including me).

It mainly depends on the question of when exactly the foil was removed. The first few days are critical; after 2-3 days, the foundation slab can also freeze through without causing damage.

Well, if anyone can do it, then an expert can. If you are unsure, get one involved. It is clear that such tips don’t help you. However, this is a forum and many people read along who might avoid that mistake because of such tips. Regarding your acquaintances... did they have an expert who inspected the foundation beforehand and the slab afterwards? If not, how do they know the work was carried out well? I would always be very cautious with such recommendations. Just because the house is still standing after 5 years doesn’t mean that all work was done 100% correctly.

They often do that, have a good reputation, even poured the slab from your landlord in the snow

Honestly: ask the colleagues about their vacation what they think about it

If the answer is plausible... go to sleep peacefully
If not: get an expert

Without minimal trust, you won't be able to sleep soon if it continues, just my opinion

Of course you're right, but in this thread I was explicitly concerned about possible frost damage due to the removed foil. This is not something that could have been prevented in advance by an expert.

With our old landlord, the slab was poured in winter 2015, and since we are good friends with his daughter who lives in the house, we know at least that there were never any problems. And their house construction company apparently said that they rarely saw such a nicely poured slab. Also, our prefab house provider said that although the civil engineering company has been around for over 30 years, they have never heard or seen anything bad from them. So I really have full trust that they did it properly.

But to clarify again, obviously someone partially removed the cover of our slab, because when we were there again a week later, it was missing in some places. Of course, we don't know when that happened. We only know that everything was fine the day after. Whether someone removed the cover on day 2 or day 6, unfortunately, we don't know because we weren't on site in between (this is a new development area and there are always many onlookers).

The question for us is how you can even recognize possible frost damage afterwards, if the foil was already torn off on day 2 (when it was -10 degrees Celsius overnight). So, is there anything besides cracks you should look out for? And does an expert possibly see more than a construction manager?

You are worrying far too much. You should take all this a bit more lightly. Your construction phase will be much more stressful...
