Is financing feasible or are we overextending ourselves?

If you don’t have an obligation to build, the option to build in a few years is beneficial for you.

Go to the hardware store, see what kind of terrace covering you want, and calculate the costs. For something a bit larger, including the wooden substructure but without edging stones and stone substructure (which came from the landscaping company), the material alone cost us a mid four-digit amount.

But if you just casually add 600,000... you can’t help but feel slightly fooled.

I should learn to use an /Irony tag... That was of course not meant seriously. Next time I'll add a zero :P

I can, I've done pretty much the same myself, maybe a bit more including the pathway. - Quality concrete slabs 30€/m² - Curb stones (8/25/100) 7€/m - Gravel (sub-base) 0/32 70€/ton - Cement 3€/bag - Sand/gravel for the concrete 85€/ton - Fine decorative gravel (fine bedding) 85€/ton If you can borrow an excavator, a mixer, and a plate compactor, it can be done by two people in (a brutal) week. With small stuff (slab lifter, joint spacers, delivery and loading costs) you could stay under 2000€.

THANK YOU! I just talked to my dad on the phone and his price estimate was similar. Yes, we would get a vibrating plate and excavator. My dad has a mixer at home. Then I’ll plan on 2500 euros for it.

Terrace 8x4 with tiles and granite edges approx. 4000€ material plus own manpower. So already with somewhat more expensive material.

He can leave the mixer at home, way too slow. Two men, two shovels, garden hose. Mixing directly at the place of use is the motto. With a mixer, you just stand around half the day and wait.

But that only works with ready-mix concrete, which is significantly more expensive than making it yourself.
Besides, it depends on how much you are concreting.
I only chamfered the curb stones, so mixing was not a time issue.
