Good morning,

first of all, thank you very much for the honest answers!

The plot would be from a private seller without a broker! The second car still exists because my wife also has to go to work. Turnkey means without interior painting and floor laying (tiles, laminate, etc.) except for the bathroom and utility room.

We might still look for an existing property ..

Regards

Steven

She said that you could go to work by bike and your wife with the car. Then you would only need one.

Yep, at 7km... I ride about 12km to work by bike every day. But if you really live in the middle of nowhere, you can't get by with 2 cars for 2 kids.

If the earner can ride a bike 7km to work, then one family car is enough for the wife.

Then there are still the incidental construction costs. As for what a house build costs, there are many threads about that here.

I stick to my point: with a current income of 2750 it will be very difficult. And if so, only with reliable relationships for EL and one's own skills and dexterity.
130sqm x 1700 = 220000
Materials for floor coverings etc. 10000
Plot plus purchase incidental costs and buffer 30000
Incidental construction costs 30000
Outdoor facilities 10000
Carport etc. 5000
Garden house 2000

= rounded up 310000

2 cars in the countryside can already be an advantage. I wouldn't rush to sell anything now as a change of employer might involve longer commuting. Still, examine expenses and increase income.

Well, on top of the €2750 you would also get the child benefit of €400 and the Baukindergeld of €200. That brings us to €3350. The latter, however, should be seen more as a reserve... I mean, until the application is approved, you really don't know if you'll get it... It's a tricky thing with the volunteer labor. I also did this and that "myself," more precisely with the help of friends and family (masonry of interior walls, drywall, insulating the roof and floor). But it was very hard for me to keep asking for help with work tasks... especially when every weekend actually already had "plans." I mean, people all work, have families themselves, so it was quite uncomfortable for me... especially since I can only really reciprocate moderately (as a woman, none of the men ask me to help with work tasks in return! - Although, I was quickly given a knack for sculpting plasterboard and Styrofoam...). I have now spent six weeks together with a friend, on weekends and with an occasional day off, laying the floor insulation (a huge job because all the electrical and water pipes lie on the raw floor). And basically, it's now "my fault" due to my slowness that it’s taking three weeks longer... Overall, I'm amazed there's not more resistance here, when I remember how in other posts better-off people were advised to just leave the whole thing alone... If anything, it can only go as modestly as possible here, something like a carport can be crossed off the list right away... And one should consider whether volunteer labor beyond drywall would be possible. Just my opinion.
