Well, with that argument, he could also leave out everything else, plumbing, stairs... he doesn't know how the customer wants it. [emoji849][emoji6]

For me personally, I consider this an attempt to find a way to earn money through additional services. It would be interesting to know how many customers do NOT commission this...

In my opinion, however, this does not replace the obligation of the client to familiarize themselves with the construction performance description. Possibly with the assistance of an expert if they cannot do it alone.

The interest in earning through additional services also includes drawing the builder’s attention to missing items and then offering a quote. This did not happen here; otherwise, the OP would have known about the absence in the construction service description.

So far, I have also never read in the forum that a contractor always comes with additional offers – usually, these tasks are rather inconvenient for the contractor.

Ordering a part of a house means reading the fine print.

If I refer to the example of @Nordys, with which I do not agree, I have to look at the technical information of the dryer, how much it delivers, consumes, and which special features it has. Whether condenser or exhaust air would be comparable to the offered one-story or two-story.

If I buy a vacuum cleaner in the budget segment, I am not surprised that no brush nozzle is included. That is added on top in the premium version if I even need it. Then it is my decision whether it should be wide or narrow, whether from the brand or rather another brand.

The construction service description is the equipment, nothing more.

By the way, these are the costs that should always be included as a buffer in a lump sum calculation. Thus, for example, we also did not think about the connections you mentioned of the rainwater downpipes to the sewage pipe. How good that we were still liquid [emoji6]

But don't forget that while it may still be manageable for first-time builders to compare what's written, noticing what isn't written is a completely different matter that requires more practice.

That may be true, but the contractor is still a sneaky dog, because he already knew before signing that he would offer the missing base coat of plaster the next day. He could have done that beforehand as well.

And for all future clients, here is a reminder to take note:

[*]Before signing, the construction and service description must be professionally reviewed with the goal of identifying unclear and incomplete formulations. This review is carried out by experts, architects, the Building Owners' Protection Association, etc. etc.
[*]Also before signing, the purchase or contract for work must be legally reviewed with the goal of clearly understanding the consequences and avoiding major disadvantages. This review is done by a specialist lawyer for construction law.
