I have always considered a semi-detached or terraced house. Also because of the additional costs to be borne. However, there should be at least a small garden. Here, mainly terraced houses are built very centrally, which of course makes the land significantly more expensive and thus the total price is equivalent to a detached house.

Because the question about the price of the house came up. Depending on the location, a plot of land would cost 50-80k. According to research, a prefabricated house (in our idea) from, for example, Rensch-Haus or Bien-Zenker costs 230,000k. You can calculate that with Rensch-Haus and Bien-Zenker. Additional costs as well as building incidental costs would certainly be added.

It hardly matters, but it's still interesting. Professionally, I deal with people who have been in life-threatening situations or have lost other people. And it really never is about dying thinking "oh, I'm so glad I had a big house with a garden." It's almost always about community and meaningful connections and meaningful activities. Very rarely about possessions.
Unfortunately, our society has largely lost sight of this.

So you don't have to be a "community type." Everyone would have been happy if the neighbor shoveled the snow. Even if you're not a "community type." It’s a small piece of everyday joy that makes life richer.
Otherwise, I don't hear or see anything from my neighbors. Maybe that's because of their home office. :D

A purchase is not an excluded option. Thanks for the note about the building deadline.

However, only houses are available for purchase here, which are located in already very expensive areas. So the price comes out roughly the same. At least I imagine that, please don’t laugh.

That will also be the case – you won’t be much cheaper buying existing properties.

Just recently, my colleague told me that he bought a condominium (90 sqm, 1 garage space, no garden, no balcony) here in the south (rural area) for €380,000 :D – real estate prices are crazy..

I basically agree with you, but let me play the advocatus diaboli here: There are also other neighbors who would then be closer in the townhouse. Remember the chain-link fence and the sweet pea bush in the 90s. Or the story from ( ).

For me, it also comes down to the fact that every townhouse I had visited (about 3-5 in my life) had rather a narrow, dark floor plan. I had the feeling that someone had placed an apartment upright. And then just some little towel-shaped garden where with patio furniture, grill, garden shed, and the bicycles everything was basically already covered. There may be others, but I have not seen them...
