As far as I can see, your laundry room is in the basement.

Our utility room will be on the upper floor, next to the bathroom. All large towels, bed linen, cleaning supplies, and hygiene product stocks are supposed to find space there.

If it were in our basement and we had a lot of space, I would do it differently too :)

But this way, in my opinion, we have been able to use the space very well.

But another question. We are considering replacing the door of the utility room with a glass sliding door, partly to let additional light into the hallway and partly to save the space of the door leaf (when the door is open).

We never do laundry when someone is sleeping or so :) does anyone else maybe have it like this?

We have a glass door to the utility room on the upper floor next to the bathroom. It works really well.

We don’t have a basement ;) The laundry room is on the ground floor (big, old house - the laundry room is on the ground floor of an extension and used to be a pigsty). What personally would bother me about doing laundry on the upper floor is the constant climbing of stairs. But that’s also because I don’t do laundry regularly with a small load, but rather have a "laundry day" every one, two, or three weeks when the machines run all day long. So every 1.5 to 2 hours I go there, empty the washing machine, put the clothes that can go into the dryer in there, hang other items on the line, and reload the washing machine. Since life takes place on the ground floor during the day, the distances are pleasantly short.

I think your idea of the glass door is great – it makes the whole thing a bit friendlier and brighter.

Our laundry accumulates upstairs, I currently carry everything from upstairs to downstairs and then back again. We always wash when there’s enough to run a machine. We have never done a laundry day like that.

We have now ordered the utility room cabinet system. If everything goes according to our plan, nothing to do with laundry should end up anywhere other than upstairs in the utility room :D

If it doesn’t work/please us, then too bad for us :D

The utility room on the upper floor was also one of the best decisions in the house for us. Where does most laundry occur? In the bedrooms and the bathroom. The only things that still get carried up and down are the towels from the guest toilet and the cloths from the kitchen.

Much of house construction is, by the way, not logical. My wife categorically rejected a utility room on the upper floor (not that we even had space for it there). I believe if we had a basement, a room there would have become a classic laundry room. Despite the walking distances, etc.
One walking path that could still be considered: laundry is sometimes hung outside in the garden, which then makes the utility room on the upper floor less practical again...
