That people can't stand you is not due to envy. But because of your character. This has been clearly visible here in the last few weeks. So, when you once again think "he doesn't like me, must be envy," no! It's 90% because of your character. Try not to cover up this fact by lumping all Germans together under "envy"
You either like HilfeHilfe or you don't. There are just people like that, you either say yay or nay. We have clashed before too, it happens, you have to rise above it.
To the actual topic, even if the OP doesn't write anything more because apparently he was bashed too often (I know that too, which is why my last real post here was in December 2017), otherwise just a silent reader.
In the end, no one is better or worse because they own a property. It's simply a different kind of investment. Some let their money rot in the bank, others use it for gambling, some throw their money out the window on drinking, parties, or similar things, or whatever.
You can pretty much forget about real bargains. Plots of land cost 200€/m² upwards here in Hesse (Frankfurt area) as well.
The choice I had? Either a crappy plot where only a boring standard new build could be built, or a wonderfully large plot that would stand empty for 30 years and another loan could be started.
So what to do at a tender age of 24 in 2017? Searched, compared, visited, and sorted out. In the end I was fed up with the whole land search and bought myself a small house. Land price per m² 330€ according to the standard land value, and a hut on it which is currently being renovated. At least a start. What I want to say is, sometimes you have to make concessions. In my opinion, a new build at the current time just doesn’t add up. There are too many vultures who want to earn money from it, that’s how it is!
Regarding loans, everyone certainly has their preferences. Some swear by security at current interest rates. So they finance for 20 years or more at a fixed interest rate. Others, myself included, want to be done quickly despite the low interest rate phase. Not out of fear or anything, but simply because they think it’s better that way. 1600€ installment, 10 years fixed rate at 1.62%. With the special repayments, the loan is paid off after 10 years. Ten years is a long time, 20 or even 30 years, phew, that wouldn't be for me. But everyone as they want and ultimately can!
A house is a feeling of freedom for me. Freedom can be gained in many ways, be it through traveling or the ability to know you can quit everything at any time and just move somewhere else. Everyone decides that individually. Ultimately, though, it is just a place you return to after work, where you see your children grow up, spend your life, etc. Children care least of all whether they grow up in a rented or bought property, and adults should feel the same. But as I said, for some it is a true fulfillment to know that it will eventually be their own property. Personally, I don’t care about that view because if that were important to me I’d still have to wait a few years to really say with conviction "it’s mine," because currently it belongs more to the bank than me.
But I think with the topic of house, we are simply dealing with something typically German. Germans mostly drive Mercedes, BMW or Audi. Own a German Shepherd with the corresponding house etc. Some live according to expectations and guidelines, but many forget that there is no real guideline for life itself, you should do what makes you happy and not what others expect from you or to satisfy or even outdo others.
