How deep should the stair landing be? How to design it?

Yes, we still find the hallway too narrow. Maybe our goal was not communicated correctly: we want to reduce the total stair depth to the necessary minimum.

That’s why the initial question was related to the step and landing depth. And not whether our coat rack space is sufficient.

Without the excursion with the windbreak, you still got answers. I googled once and found out that a landing can also work with 79! cm. However, I wouldn't do that. Maybe try playing around with 85. With your measurements, please do not deduct from the tread depths. A landing staircase is a staircase that brings a lot of air into a hallway and is also supposed to be visually appealing. It offers plenty of space to transport furniture but also consumes a lot. I have also read that the risk of accidents is supposed to be increased because the walking rhythm is interrupted. I would always prefer this option with a certain house size.

We have 112cm at the narrowest point on the platform - absolutely sufficient, airy. However, I would very much prefer not to have less, as we have repeatedly noticed during the move and even now how important space on the stairs is.

I would be very reluctant to go below 100...

Thanks again to everyone who participated in the discussion. We will now continue planning with a U-shaped staircase and a dormer, hoping to get the dormer style we prefer approved...

I'll dig up my old thread to briefly outline the result.

In the end, it remained a U-shaped staircase, with which I am overall very satisfied. I just don't like landing stairs that much because of the change in direction. The hallway is about 1.5 meters wide and therefore appears very spacious. Yes, in the finished state I wondered if it really needed to be this wide. But since I am less familiar with my parents' places and find it TOO SMALL with furniture at the latest, I am so far very happy with the decision.

What we basically adopted and are very happy about: we rotated the toilet wall by 90 degrees, so there is no "separate room" for the wardrobe. The niche in the office remains and will still be filled with a large shoe/wardrobe cabinet. However, we did not implement the suggestion to put the office or bathroom door in the middle of the room, but left it on the left side because of our furnishing concept for the hallway (loungy with a small couch!). So far it looks awkward in the bathroom, as it is very elongated and without a shower with lots of excess space; in the medium term, a built-in cupboard will go in there. As soon as there is time for such "small stuff"...
