Disadvantages of parquet veneer flooring? Apart from no sanding possibility?

Pine was also unaffordable. Unfortunately, the 200-year-old room-length floorboards in our house could no longer be saved, and this is the point I regret the most that our budget did not allow us to replace them with new floorboards in that format. That was the only compromise I still struggle with even after two years.

We have just paid 44 euros/sqm for a beautiful oak parquet rustic. It was advertised at 50 euros. Even today, there is room to negotiate.

If you want to lay it floating, it’s not rocket science, not much harder than laminate. It gets tricky with continuous laying, such as under door frames. But even a moderately skilled DIYer with a miter saw and circular saw, possibly a contour gauge, can manage it. Two people should be able to cover roughly 20 m2 per day after the first room. I can’t tell you anything about gluing, as I have never done that myself.

We just had parquet laid floating in our attic studio three years after moving in; the craftsman (small child takes its toll...) charged 22 euros/m2 plus 5 euros per running meter for baseboards. All prices net.

I bought the parquet itself last autumn as second choice, country house planks Swedish oak, brushed and smoked as well as oiled, 240x20 cm with 3.5 mm wear layer ("Berg&Berg Eriksberg") for 35 euros/m2. The manufacturer asked 105 euros back then for first choice, even 120 euros currently. We simply took one more pack than would have been necessary for first choice, but that was actually unnecessary. The craftsman found the quality very good.

Oak select light oiled from the same manufacturer in that size is still available from the dealer now for 25 euros/m2. Even vinyl is often more expensive! Delivery is available nationwide for a flat rate of 100 euros.

I don’t find it any harder to install than laminate at all. It’s the same principle. And in new construction, you can make sure that the door frames are installed only after the floor.
