Thanks again for the answers. Anyway, we definitely have a lot to think about for the next time.

However, a basement is not an option for us. I don’t like basements, I just can’t warm up to them (and I’m very well aware of what I’m missing, I grew up in a house with a basement and our current apartment (a two-family house) also has a basement). If more storage space, then above ground, but then the house slowly takes on dimensions that we can no longer afford or want to pay for. Therefore, the storage space will remain as it is and I think there are many builders who are in a much worse position when it comes to storage space. We don’t have that little storage space now. But I’m not much of a collector anyway, I prefer to throw things away and neither do we have hobbies with a lot of equipment nor is my husband the type who likes to tinker and needs a workshop. So everyone has different demands.

We will probably do it that way with the window in the storage room of the garage.

Well, I would also be interested in your floor plan. We are also planning a straight staircase that is also centrally located in the house. A few more ideas can never hurt. And I immediately liked your pictures of the house from the outside!

I agree with Andre-Jana. We’re also not sure yet whether to go with a straight or a podium staircase. It really influences the entire room concept... We also really like the size and appearance of your house. I would also be happy to see your floor plans. You don’t have a basement, right? It would also be interesting to see where you have the storage/laundry room. Thanks in advance! And have a nice Sunday

So, now that our floor plan is finalized, I’d like to post an update here. Not much has changed (since the floor plan basically already suited us and there were no major no-gos mentioned here in the forum).

The building application was submitted with the current floor plan and has already been approved. Therefore, major changes are basically no longer possible, nor do we want them, as we really like the floor plan. Minor details can still be changed, so if you have any ideas, feel free to share them.

Regarding the window issue: We slightly changed and standardized the dimensions of the windows on the east side (street side). The kitchen window on the south side is no longer floor-to-ceiling, since we probably wouldn’t have used this window as a garden access anyway, and it feels more fitting to us this way. On the west side, I wasn’t entirely comfortable with the window in the dressing room. We have now moved it a bit (so that 60 cm cabinets fit on both sides in the dressing room), and it is no longer floor-to-ceiling. In my opinion, the exterior view is not 100% harmonious, but that is the bitter pill we “have to” swallow. However, I can live well with it. The main thing is that the windows fit well inside the rooms. Later, when applying the exterior plaster, we will play around with the colors a bit to try to mask the irregularity, and I think that in reality it won’t look bad at all. I’ll also attach some photos from Sweet Home 3D where I reconstructed this. Please see the SH3D photos only as a rough guide; not everything is shown 100% accurately!

The window on the north side (staircase) is not 100% finalized in terms of dimensions yet; it may be shortened a bit, and we are currently still discussing this with our planner.

We actually changed the layout in the bathroom the way I had initially presented as an alternative in the first post. Whether this will still change remains to be seen. It does not have to be decided now.

Regarding children’s room 1 and the office, we are currently still considering whether to leave out the wall (as suggested here in the thread) to create a larger children’s room (essentially with a dressing area) and use children’s room 2 as an office, only separating the rooms later if we actually decide on a second child. We have already briefly discussed this with the structural engineer and it should be feasible. Whether we will really do it that way will be decided before construction begins.

Conclusion: Consistent! But please remove this gray box around the windows on the south side, what is that supposed to be? Suggesting some kind of light strip? It's neither here nor there, I would skip it. Maybe put up a small wall in the dressing room right as you enter, so you don't look directly at a wall of closets, but for example you can hang a mirror on the wall there. Unless no tall closet is intended to be placed there, then it's different.

Oh yes, for the kitchen I would possibly consider a freestanding kitchen island, more square and positioned in the middle. I find that nicer than the version you drew. That's exactly what we have now in the rental apartment and I don't find it practical or attractive.
