@ construction expert: Is this prohibition against starting a staircase directly behind a door due to the potential risk of falling? How does it look if the staircase goes up directly behind the door instead of down? Does the prohibition apply then as well? : Have you planned an open or a closed staircase? If you mirror the start of the staircase and choose a closed staircase, you might possibly (if that were permissible) simply omit the door at the top of the stairs and instead install the door at the bottom (on the first floor) – then, of course, a wall panel would still be necessary, but the square meter in front of the door at the top would no longer be required... Yes.

What about if the staircase goes up directly behind the door instead of down? Does the prohibition still apply?

Not quite as explicitly, but the last step – coming down the stairs and if the door opens in the opposite direction – should be on the same level. Whether that’s very practical – for example, if your hands are full with towels or whatever – is another matter altogether ;)
