I like it better. Rethink the sofa position. The view is towards the wall. would give the kitchen a little less depth and the dining area more. Or sliding doors. Kitchen is unergonomically deep. Dining area very tight with the balcony door open. Swing radius of balcony door +80cm minimum seating distance + table + 80 cm Upstairs I didn't notice anything. Is the closet space in the bedroom and office enough for you?

It doesn't do itself. I already said it: in summer you either stay on the terrace or have to do something in the garden, in the dark season a dark garden is quite boring as an evening program.

Hello, first of all, thank you all very much! Without you, the current draft probably wouldn’t have come about, and we like it far better than the one on page 1!!!

Good point, maybe we need a new sofa that is "mirrored," so our current one would actually fit.

Yes, fortunately that doesn’t have to be fixed exactly now. For sliding doors, the opening would probably have to be a bit smaller.
The kitchen could be 15-30cm smaller, we need to plan the kitchen carefully then. If the cupboard in the hallway becomes narrower, the door could be moved down a bit and something pushed there.
The seating area now has 3.30m from the open door, which is at least 0.70m more than your minimum.

In the bedroom it is >50% more than we have now, and if we can put the closet in the hallway at the WC entrance, bedding etc. can go in there.
You never really have enough space in the office, but old stuff can then also go to the basement.

Both are valid points, but we’d rather look at the garden from the sofa than at the neighbor’s house and, depending on the driveway, also our car. And I hope we don’t have to work in the garden all summer.

I haven’t really been able to figure out yet what would argue against a functioning standard design (?)

The orientation of the plot and the maximum house width (approx. 10m) in connection with the desired number of rooms and area.
The designs I have seen for approx. 10x12m are all oriented towards the "long" side of the house.
If you know a standard design that would fit, I would of course be happy!

Gable-side accessed rectangular floor plans are indeed in the minority, but they are not exactly a rarity either. If neither the residents nor the site are particularly special, I would not look for salvation in a custom design. Standards simplify many things, especially in the owner-occupied home project.
