That was the intention. When you come in from outside, potentially dirty or loaded with tires, greasy bikes, or some kind of wood stuff, you should be able to reach the basement without having to go through the living area.

As I said, at the moment the "shed roof" option is still being discussed. That would bring a noticeable saving; besides, a north-south slope here would open up possibilities for photovoltaics in the future (in case the house roof becomes too small ;-)). Also, you would see the beams of the wooden roof structure in the entrance area, which would generally suit the house and make it a bit more homely. But the decision has not yet been made.

For something like that, you build an outside basement staircase ... ;)

You can do it, but you don't have to. A lot of money for potential moisture trouble.

But a huge relief for dog owners. In this nasty weather, you go through the basement into the house. The dog towel lies on the workbench next to the basement door. The dog stays immediately behind the door, has its feet wiped, and then continues into the house. That makes the owner happy too ... ;)

That may reflect your personal situation, but it probably doesn't help here, because the OP has decided on another option that appears much more residential than an entrance through the basement.

Sorry, but we still have a residential entrance as well. And of course, you can also get to the basement from there. The charm of an outside staircase is simply that not everything that belongs in the basement has to go through the living area. That's something you can consider during the planning phase of a new build.
