Hello! When the kids have moved out, you definitely don't need one! BUT only IF you nicely sell your stuff on Ebay & co

The basement only for washing, litter box, storing chairs over winter, and hobby workshop is somehow an expensive and actually unnecessary thing

to clutter up and keep sensible things (e.g. children's equipment if more children are planned later - where to put stroller, buggy and so on) is, in my opinion, a big difference.

whoever tends to "clutter up" will find something to clutter up even without a cellar

whether attic, storage room, utility room or whatever...

when our son was small, we often said that a cellar would be practical...

we would certainly have kept more toys and stuff instead of selling them, would have used the table tennis table in winter sometimes, celebrated children's birthdays in the party cellar and so on and so forth

at that time we simply didn’t have enough money

now that it’s just the two of us, we want to build "barrier-free" for later anyway...

sauna possibly in the garden, lawn mower and such like now also in the garden shed/garage extension

of course, anyone who uses the cellar as living space, play/hobby cellar, wants/has to put heating and such there, has a completely different approach

a cellar should not be built as pure storage space, the money can be used more wisely there

So if it's not because of money or local difficulties, I would always build with a basement. For us, groundwater was threatening and the money was also gone - so two problems at once. So we built without it and are doing fine. The roof, on the other hand, has plenty of space for Christmas stars and co. When we have the money together, we will build a large garage with a workshop for my little man to play.

Quite simple: everyone has to decide for themselves.
