I wouldn’t care. My better half does care ... that’s just how it is :) But I’m also not a fan of total visibility of the inside of the house from the front door. Because conversely, you can then see the door from everywhere, also with the quickly just kicked-off shoes, etc. I don’t really want that either from the sofa. From a certain house size onwards, there is then the grand entrance and the servant’s entrance for that “problem.” But we’re still a bit away from that ;-) .

Sorry that today I only find time bit by bit to read the thread and therefore reply scattered:

That sounds very interesting, would you like to show the questionnaire here once?

I explain elsewhere the schedule of the architect according to the phase model of the HOAI. Two things strike me as inadvisable about this approach:
1. Sending the poor fellow out into the desert after the permit planning and then letting him set out alone with his little boat into the rough sea I fundamentally consider not a wise idea. This, in my opinion, is only topped by making the cut after stage 4, since this interface is significantly more unsuitable than if you take at least stage 5 with you. Moreover, the willingness to enter into an architect contract only up to and including stage 4 is unfortunately often a hallmark of architects who are not great practitioners in two ways: namely in terms of calculation and site management.
2. That you are looking for a general contractor would be two mistakes in one: first, you should not do it, but the architect should; and second, I would never actively seek a general contractor, but merely allow in the tender that general contractors may also bid. Individual contracting is, even if not conducted as single contracting, a dangerous terrain.

That reminds me of THAT one word: frosted glass ;)
(Or a mirror ...)
But both would require closed doors.

On the topic of "quickly taken off shoes" also a word: discipline! :D

But well ... reaching a consensus here is probably not possible – except: everyone as they like or think they have to

Oh ... the (private) house entrance through the garage via the utility room could nowadays be called a kind of servants’ entrance and that is present in many houses today – like in ours too :)

;) We don't have to agree. But every pro and con should be understandable for the OP. He decides!

But that doesn’t help if the front door is made of frosted glass – it’s actually about openness between the entrance area and the garden. ;) Yes, discipline... how do I teach that to a 4-year-old when mom isn’t that consistent either. It also always depends on the floor plan. In a house with a north-facing entrance and a south-facing terrace, I can imagine openness, e.g., with a view only through the dining area, more than with us with an entrance on the side, where the view would then go straight through the chill area directly to the TV.

Oh come on, mom not consistent about taking off shoes? - I thought getting dirty was a male characteristic ;-)
