Here is the kitchen: the island is a bit smaller
Child with mom, needs to go to the toilet, teen fiddling with the phone, doesn’t want to move aside, dad is cooking (emptying the dishwasher)... the noise and family stress are programmed for years to come ;)

Thank you very much for the drawing. As mentioned, we currently live with almost the same layout and it suits us very well. Please don’t take it the wrong way, but I would rate these personal experiences higher than a picture. Admittedly, we don’t yet have a rebellious teen around, but from time to time guests as a stress test – it works well.

Well, the quickest solution would probably be to place the kitchen on the opposite wall. But then the question quickly arises as to how much light remains on the dining table, which brings us back to the southeast-facing windows. Whether it is easier to bypass the dining table is also still to be clarified.

Then you have to go past the dining table and not the kitchen. I wouldn't say it's a big difference.

Since our project is slowly taking shape, I wanted to tap into the intelligence of the masses and ask for feedback on our early draft. Many things have not yet been thought through in detail

Feel free to point out errors/problems mercilessly. It is still early enough to take countermeasures.

Is this already complaining at a high level or still justified criticism of the floor plan? It should be clear that not everyone can build a castle. On the other hand, in my opinion, a lot of space and money is wasted through the extension, which would be more important in the common room. Besides the narrowness in the dining area, there are also no storage areas for cabinets in the entire living area. The narrow shelf behind the sofa is just a token gesture. You can neither reach it well nor does it have valuable usable space. The continuously floor-to-ceiling windows are visually appealing but ensure that you have no storage space under the windows either. With 2 children, this will be a daily struggle. I agree with .

The arrangement in the living room is only from the architect and does not necessarily yet reflect what is planned. I have read ypg's storage thread. Of course, stuff always accumulates, but here storage space is somewhat exaggerated. Above all, I don't want to store most stuff in the living room. I'm not really the type for a wall unit. I would also see several places where you can easily place furniture of various sizes—at least more than the stuff I own. Still, thanks for the hint. I will take another look at the window positions in light of this criticism.

I have taken all points as an opportunity to reflect. That was very helpful. In many places, I have also acknowledged that the ideas are sensible and adopted them (e.g., your suggestion for the door in the study). I rejected other points based on my own assessment. That must be allowed, right? I don't really understand the problem. But we can also close this here if this is the direction the discussion is going. I will not try to win an argument on the internet. Everyone knows that is impossible.
